In a first for India's digital evolution, Uttar Pradesh launched the country's first private AI-infused multidisciplinary university in Unnao. Led by Chandigarh University, the institution was officially opened by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which constitutes an important step towards the state's larger vision to develop an AI-driven workforce and inject the latest technologies into major sectors like education, governance, agriculture, and public security.
The new university is conceived as a center of cutting-edge skill building, in sync with the state government's ambitious AI Pragya mission, which envisions training 10 lakh people in new technologies such as AI, machine learning, data analytics, and cybersecurity. This large-scale training initiative targets a cross-section of society, ranging from students and teachers to village leaders, bureaucrats, and farmers. International technology titans like Microsoft, Google, Intel, and Guvi are joining hands in the initiative, with 1.5 lakh people to be trained every month.
At the time of inauguration, Chief Minister Adityanath stressed that AI is no longer a futuristic ideal but a key development and governance tool today. He restated the state's focus on using AI for better delivery of services, agricultural productivity, educational innovation, and public safety. Unnao's university is likely to be a key contributor to this vision through interdisciplinary learning and generating industry-ready human capital.

Uttar Pradesh already has AI embedded in its public safety system through endeavors such as the Safe City Project, leveraging AI-powered CCTV cameras, ANPR, and real-time dashboards integrated with the emergency 112 helpline. These technologies have enhanced surveillance and emergency response capabilities in 17 city corporations, with plans for expansion in progress.
In agricultural development, the Rs 4,000 crore UP-AGRIS project funded by the World Bank is leveraging AI for intelligent irrigation, land mapping using drones, pest scouting, and crop monitoring, directly benefitting more than 10 lakh farmers. Land reforms are also being implemented with the help of AI tools for mapping via satellites and digital accounting.
Apart from agriculture and security, AI is also being utilized in prisons through the Jarvis system in 70 prisons and in mine operations for surveillance and environmental monitoring. Overall, all this is making Uttar Pradesh a national model for AI-driven administration and inclusive technological development.
