Delhi Government Appoints New Teachers to Improve Education Quality
- 5,346 new Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) appointed across Delhi’s govt and MCD schools
- Move aims to enhance teaching quality and bridge learning gaps in classes VI–X
- Part of Delhi’s ‘Viksit Delhi’ vision for improved education and school infrastructure
The Delhi government has appointed 5,346 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) to teach classes VI to X across government and municipal (MCD) schools in the capital. The step is aimed at improving teaching quality and providing focused academic support to students, aligning with the Viksit Delhi vision for quality education.
According to a post from the Chief Minister’s official X handle, the decision will help strengthen school infrastructure and improve learning outcomes across Delhi’s public education system. Education minister Atishi said the appointments reflect the government’s continued efforts to ensure every student receives subject-specific learning support.
TGTs are graduates with teaching qualifications like B.Ed and play a crucial role in secondary education, bridging the gap between primary and senior secondary levels.
The move comes amid a persistent teacher shortage in Delhi’s government and MCD schools, where nearly 10,000 positions remain vacant. This shortage has often led to heavy reliance on guest or contractual teachers, disrupting the student-teacher ratio and increasing workloads for existing staff.

The announcement follows the government’s Rs 100 crore allocation in the 2025-26 Delhi Budget to establish 75 CM Shri Schools, aimed at setting new benchmarks in public education. A 2024 report by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had also flagged the teacher shortage as a major concern in Delhi’s schools.
