AKTU Partners with Tech Giants to Offer Virtual Internships with Academic Credits
- AKTU introduces online internships linked to academic credits.
- Partnerships signed with IBM, Infosys, and other major tech firms.
- Initiative to begin from the 2025–26 academic session.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has launched a new initiative allowing students to earn academic credits through online internships. The move aims to enhance students’ industry exposure and make learning more practical and flexible.
Under the program, students will earn one credit for every 30 hours of virtual internship. Those in their third, fifth, and seventh semesters can complete at least 60 hours of internship, equivalent to two academic credits. These internships will count as mini-projects under the National Credit Framework, which equates 30 hours of hands-on work to one credit.
To implement this, AKTU has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several leading tech companies, including IBM, Infosys, SmartBridge, NIELIT, Nemi, and Softpro. The internships, both paid and unpaid, will be available to students of AKTU and its affiliated colleges.
Prof. JP Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, highlighted that the initiative will save students time and resources while helping them gain valuable industry experience from anywhere. “Virtual internships eliminate the need for students to visit companies physically. They can now gain practical exposure alongside their classes”, he said.

The evaluation of internships will be conducted jointly by industry partners and the university. On completion, students will receive certificates acknowledging their learning and performance. AKTU has informed all affiliated institutions that the system will roll out from the 2025-26 academic year.
