“You educate a man, you educate a man. You educate a woman, you educate a generation” – This quote by Brigham Young and many other eminent thinkers has a phenomenal effect on mankind. Many have followed this religiously to spread education which is used as a powerful weapon to change the world for better. With this humble thought of educating the nation, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women was established in 1991by the SNR Sons Charitable Trust, one of the pioneer philanthropists of Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu with the noble cause of empowering women.

Education for Empowerment
Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women having over 27 years of academic heritage in women’s education, is the first self- financed women’s college affiliated to the Bharathiar University. The institution is accredited by NAAC and approved by AICTE. Situated at the heart of the city of Coimbatore, which is considered as the educational hub in the state of Tamil Nadu, the college has about 1700 students, ably mentored by a dedicated team of more than 110 faculty and support staff. The premium women’s college in the Coimbatore region has graduated 27000 students so far and desires to excel in its journey towards educating and empowering women.

Boasting of a remarkable 297 University ranks including 36 Gold Medals, and seasoned faculty (65 per cent have 10-20 years of experience & 50 per cent holding Doctoral degrees), the college offers 13 Under-Graduate, five Post-graduate and M.Phil. & Ph.D. programmes in Commerce, Computer Science, Biochemistry and Microbiology.

The college strongly believes in outcome-based education with innovative teaching practices involving ICT tools. The learning ambience is enhanced through well-stocked library with access to online resources, Wi-Fi enabled campus, well-established smart classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories,auditorium, and computer lab. The institution also offers elegantly furnished hostel facilities and well-covered network of transportation facilities. To promote the spirit of self-learning and life-long learning, the students are encouraged to register for various online courses through IIT Spoken Tutorial, NPTEL, SWAYAM portal and other MOOC courses.
Industry Interaction
To bridge the gap between the academia and industry, guest lectures, seminars, workshops and panel discussions are organized where eminent industry practitioners are invited. Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women has signed MoUs with leading industries for enabling regular industry interaction. The efforts of the institution in moulding industry-ready students have resulted in 98 per cent placement record of the job aspirants in reputed companies. Industry Advisory Board is established in every department constituting of experts from leading industries who can advise on the curriculum enrichment to keep abreast of the developments in the field and to train the students to meet the industry expectations. Students are encouraged to take up real-time field projects, summer internships and corporate in-house training with the help of the industry linkages.

Research Activities
The institution through its Research & Development Cell encourages faculty members to publish articles in refereed international journals, galvanizes the research appetite with seed funding scheme and special incentives. The faculty and research scholars have proven their research acumen by presenting over 150 papers in various conferences over the past year.

Holistic Approach
The institution offers unlimited opportunities for the students help identify and unfurl their innate potentials. In order to provide a systematic and holistic development, the students are encouraged to undergo various add-on and certificate programmes from the first semester onwards throughout their period of study. These programmes cover a plethora of courses such as communication skills, customized skill-based courses and technical training, outbound training, personality development, languages, numerical & aptitude training, interview skills, work etiquette etc.

In its true sense of women empowerment, programmes on gender sensitisation, women's legal rights, self-defense, socio-psychological counselling are provided regularly through Women Empowerment Cell. The entrepreneurial interests of the students are kindled through Entrepreneurial Development Cell by organising experience-sharing invited talks of successful entrepreneurs. Skill development programmes and certificate courses are organised to enhance their knowledge base. Students are also encouraged to run their own
startup ventures inside the campus during the course of their study. Health Club conducts health and hygiene practices and yoga programmes to the students and staff.

Outside the realm of curriculum
Extra-Curricular Activities are conducted to identify and hone the skills of students through various clubs such as Photography, Music, Artistry and Creative Writing. Eco Club provides opportunities to nature lovers to participate in nature camps trekking, hiking etc. in association with NGOs. To inculcate the spirit of individual social responsibility, students are encouraged to participate in community building initiatives of the institution viz. National Social Service, Youth Red Cross and Red Ribbon Club etc.

Dr. Chitra holds close to two and

half decades of rich and varied academic experience of teaching, research, consultancy and administration. She has presented more than 50 research papers in various National and International Conferences conducted at New York, Singapore and Malaysia.
