Upholding the vision of ‘Empowerment of women to build an enlightened society,’ MMK & SDM College for Women offers holistic education to girls with state-of-the-art facilities & infrastructure. Established in 1990, this college is run by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational (SDME) society, Ujire, Dakshina Kannada district. With the fountain of inspiration, Padma Vibhushana awardee and Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dhramasthala, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade at its helm, MMK & SDM provides admission to Socio-economically backward students and has implemented an economic fee structure.
Benefitting the Students
Magnetizing students not only from Mysore, but also neighboring districts, the college offers UG courses like B.Sc. with five combinations – P (physics), M (mathematics), E (electronics), P-M-CS (computer science), E-M-CS,P-C (chemistry)- M, and Bt (Biotechnology), B (Biochemistry),
M (Microbiology), along with BCA, BBA, B.Com., and PG course in M.Com. To strengthen the knowledge based on the curriculum, the college conducts ICT-based classes (TED lectures, film shows, video classes, and PPT), arranges industrial visits and organizes special lectures from eminent industrialists & academicians. Truly passionate about taking education to everyone, MMK & SDM gives fees concession to meritorious students (50 percent) and on special grounds, as well as provides financial assistance (such as registration fees, TA, DA and more), and credit assistance.

The college facilitates CRT (Career Recruitment Training) that covers sessions on career options, facing interviews, group discussions, case studies, resume writing and more. “Many students have benefitted from this session and have got placed in MNCs and many have progressed to higher studies. We arrange campus placement drives from various MNCs and also encourage students to attend pool placement drive,” says Sainath Malligemadu, Principal, MMK & SDM College for Women, who is a proud recipient of Shikshaka Kesari Award. Additionally, special lecture programs for competitive exams (IAS, KAS & PGCET) and Alumni interaction programs on career guidance are arranged for students. Students receive training on leadership skills, communication skills, soft skills, and gain knowledge on women rights & legal rights, besides engaging in clubs like NSS, Youth Red Cross, Legal Literacy, Women Development, Ranger Unit and Health. Vesting keen emphasis on discipline, moral & ethical values through value education, the college organizes various events like student-faculty, alumni-faculty, parent-faculty, interdisciplinary lecture programs and more. To facilitate the overall development of girls and enable them to be successful home makers of the future, a tailor-made certificate course on ‘Home management for happy living’ and number of other subject related add-on courses have been started.
Deservingly, the college has been laureled with numerous awards like NIRF, India Today ranking for participation, and Silver Zone award for social services to name a few. Moving forward, MMK & SDM wants to become NAAC accredited & an autonomous institution and aims to deploy more PG and add-on courses. Also the college intends to avail funds for research and establish MOUs with various industries and academic bodies.
