Scottish High International School: Saga of Educational Excellence through a Transdisciplinary Curriculum

Separator
Dr. Cdr Kartikay Saini, Chairman“Give a man a fish and you feed him one day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time.” This quote perfectly throws light on the importance of skill-based education. However, exerting a strong repulsion from this is the Indian Education System that tends to address the theoretical aspects without any emphasis on practical knowledge. Curbing this approach is Gurgaon based Scottish High International School (SHIS) with a unique motto, 'Interrogo, Percipio, Adicio', which means ‘Question, Understand, and Apply’, thereby laying a strong foundation of mind, body & spirit for ‘Building Personalities, Not Just People’.

Engineering Global Citizens
Procuring the front row in producing one of the most brilliant classes of students in the country, SHIS provides an all-embracing development to its students through a well-framed rare range of curricula (IB Primary Years Program, Cambridge IGCSE, ICSE, ISC and IB Diploma Program) incorporating international standards along with Indian traditional education system. Instilling a love for learning, SHIS owns a trans disciplinary curriculum which is engaging, relevant, significant and challenging to ensure a strong nexus between the written, the
taught and the assessed curriculum. The school inspires youths’ creativity not just through Project-based Learning & The Global Education & Leadership Foundation (tGELF), but also via a melange of activities (music, dance, yoga, golf, swimming, scuba diving, horse riding, archery & alike) and Clubs (Debate, Creative Writing, MUN, Robotics, Photography, Heritage & others).

A distinctive perspective of the school is its Special Education department, which relentlessly works to help the special need children in getting adjusted and integrated with others, in contrast to other schools that are reluctant to do so

A distinctive perspective of the
school is its Special Education department, which relentlessly works to help the special need children in getting adjusted and integrated with others, in contrast to other schools that are reluctant to do so. While SHIS’ innovative concept of Home Visit (teacher visits 10-12 students’ homes) strengthens the parent-teacher bond through informal discussions, the Clan System (for every 15 tutees, a teacher is designated as clan parent) encourages students’ achievements & future plans, and resolves their problems. “We empower the economically weaker section in the school by building a sense of comradeship between them and students belonging to more fortunate backgrounds and initiate a buddy system,” states Dr. Cdr Kartikay Saini, Chairman,
SHIS. Serving the social call, SHIS organizes various activities like Autism Awareness campaign, visits to old age homes & orphanages, Labor Day, Earth Day and so on. Apart from these, it also upholds the health & safety of its students & staff by establishing stringent safety measures through evacuation drills, transit marshals, awareness campaigns like good & bad touch and mandatory health check-ups.

Engaging Educational Excellence
With a five-acre lush green campus in the heart of the city and an architectural magnificence resembling large estate manor in Scotland, SHIS is the first Indian school to attain ISO 29990:10 Certification for maintaining high-quality education. An indoor Golf Academy, half Olympic size swimming pools and an Autism Research Centre are few other highlights of the school. A squad of dedicated and diligent teachers, who are trained to cultivate ‘A shift in thinking’ is the backbone of the institution and are provided with a perfect work and play balance through fitness classes like yoga & Zumba.“Empowering the young minds and ensuring their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth, we encourage the holistic development of our students,” concludes Sudha Goyal, School Director, SHIS.
