  • VU to bring its Block Model teaching system to India for the first time
  • Gurugram campus to open in mid-2026 with business and IT programs
  • Model promises higher pass rates, small classes, and reduced academic pressure

Victoria University (VU) is set to open its first Indian campus in Gurugram, becoming one of the newest foreign universities to enter the country under the National Education Policy. The foundation ceremony was held on December 4, 2025, marking a major step toward offering global-quality education within India.

The Gurugram campus, scheduled to open in mid-2026, will be the first in India to introduce VU’s Block Model, a teaching method where students focus on one subject at a time over four weeks. Classes are small, interactive, and workshop-style, which the university says helps students stay focused and avoid academic overload.

VU reports strong outcomes from this model in Australia, noting a 94% pass rate across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The approach has especially supported first-generation learners and students facing difficult circumstances. Variants of the Block Model have also been adopted in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

The new campus will launch with undergraduate and postgraduate programs in business, information technology, and research. Its design is inspired by VU’s City Tower Campus in Melbourne, which was built specifically for block-based learning.

Australian and Indian officials, including Federal Assistant Minister Julian Hill, VU Chancellor Steve Bracks, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker, attended the ceremony. They said the Gurugram campus will offer Indian students access to global academic standards without the cost of studying abroad.

With construction underway, VU’s entry into India marks a significant moment for international universities expanding under the NEP and opens new opportunities for students seeking world-class education closer to home.
