- UNSW Sydney to launch its India campus in Bengaluru by August 2026
- Will offer UG and PG programs in business, tech and cyber security
- Part of expanded Australia-India education partnership under AIESC
The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) will set up its first India campus in Bengaluru by August 2026 after receiving a letter of intent from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The announcement was made during the third Australia-India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) meeting held on Monday.
UNSW, ranked 20th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in business, media, computer science, data science and cyber security. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the new campus will strengthen India’s global education ecosystem and give students access to Australian academic expertise without leaving the country.
Jason Clare, Australia’s Education Minister, noted that seven out of the 19 international universities approved to set up campuses in India are Australian, reflecting the growing trust and collaboration between the two nations. Several Australian institutions including La Trobe University, Victoria University, Western Sydney University and the University of Western Australia have also received letters of intent, while Deakin University and the University of Wollongong already operate in GIFT City.

Pradhan also announced new initiatives from the AIESC meeting, including joint work on early childhood education, teacher training partnerships, and the possibility of opening more CBSE-affiliated schools in Australia to serve the growing Indian diaspora. Both countries will also collaborate on sports curriculum development, aligning efforts with Australia’s 2032 Olympics and India’s 2036 Olympic aspirations.
Research partnerships are also expanding. Projects will cover artificial intelligence, biodiversity and smart mobility. Deakin University and IIT Roorkee will build a Centre of Excellence in Disaster Resilience, while the University of Western Australia, IIM Mumbai and IIT(ISM) Dhanbad will work together on mining and sustainability initiatives.
