In order to keep pace with contemporary needs, educational institutes across the country have been on a spree to modernize their campus and classrooms. Upon stepping into a classroom, one comes across centrally air-conditioned classrooms with digital white boards, projectors, laptops and high speed internet connection. While colleges are ensuring that they modernize and come at par with tech requirements of today, it is also pertinent for them to modernize their curriculum to cater to the needs of tomorrow. Working steadfast to empower its students to cater to the new market demands through a contemporary curriculum is Ballari Institute of Technology & Managament (BITM), an ISO certified & NBA accredited institute.

Located in Ballari, BITM is a well-recognized institute in Karnataka and offers a host of MBA programs pertaining to finance, HR and marketing. Apart from being armed with state-of-the-art-infrastructure, the college is built on the foundation of collaborative learning, industry exposure and real life problem solving. BITM’s highly accomplished faculty and tie-ups with industry experts play a supporting role in helping students discover their hidden potential and chart a successful career in the industry or as an entrepreneur.

Methodologies Beyond the Classroom
With the incursion of internet and smart phones in every aspect of life, current generation’s attention span has decreased immensely. As a consequence, traditional teaching methodologies have been rendered inadequate. A college with a modern approach to teaching, BITM has adopted several new age teaching methodologies that ensure students stay engaged and motivated to learn. “Flipped classrooms are one of our approaches through which teachers become facilitators of knowledge. We also make use of tools such as videos, case studies, e-books and others to capture students’ attention,” explains Dr. Yashvanth Bhupal
Director & Managing Trustee, BITM.

The institute has implemented a three pronged approach to learning in order to amalgamate theoretical knowledge with practical, real life learning. BITM has put in place an industry advisory board that acts as a bridge between the students and industry. Apart from guiding the institute to incorporate relevant certification courses, the industry advisory board also facilitates industrial visits. The institute has augmented CAPITAL LINE DATABASE, enabling the students and staff to publish papers in renowned International Journals and use the same for their final year projects.

BITM has also signed several MoUs with a host of companies and organizations such as CII, NIPM, MTC Global, IBM and NHRD, to name a few. Students and faculty members thus get to attend important seminars and events that help them understand industry trends and requirements better. Additionally, BITM ensures that each of its management student undergoes internship at prestigious companies such as Taj Hotels, Jaguar Land Rover, Reliance, Jio, Axis Bank, Volvo and JSW Steels, among others.
Collaborative MBA Programs
BITM has designed three MBA programs with specializations in marketing, finance and human resource management. Having identified the pulse of the industry, BITM’s marketing course amalgamates traditional aspects along with new age trends such as digital marketing, social media marketing and usage of various technologies to market products & services. Taking a practical approach to finance, BITM’s finance specialization takes into account numbers along with case studies.
BITM has also identified the shift in HR policies owing to a younger professionals joining the workforce.

“With millenials and Gen Z joining the workforce, companies have to align themselves to the needs, aspirations and expectations of the younger workforce. Our students are taught to be cognizant of this shift,” explains Dr. Yashvanth Bhupal. Students are taught to prepare HR policy documents and undergo internships at various reputed organizations. Each department has put in place special clubs through which the faculty and student bodies conduct educational events that help students connect the dots in real life scenarios.

Students are also given access to a vast database of data and journals from reputed publications. A well-stocked library with several e-books and digital mediums of learning enable students to look beyond the ordinary. BITM has ideated a first-of-its-kind, Rural Immersion Program to acquaint its students with the rural population of India. The two-week program that promotes social entrepreneurship has students live the village life which opens their eyes about the challenges faced by the rural population. Not only does the program aim at sensitizing students to the needs of rural India, but also empowers them to help companies market their products & service to this population.

Placements & Entrepreneurship
Apart from empowering students to be academically prepared for the industry, BITM lays emphasis on sharpening their soft skills as well. Placement training is an ongoing process at the institute which begins from the very first day of college. Every student is trained to be well versed in resume writing, business communication, personality development and more. The placement board interacts with each student to understand their areas of interest and thus helps them chart their career paths. Boasting of almost 85 percent placement every year, BITM handholds students in every step of the way.

“Every year, 5-10 percent students want to pursue entrepreneurship in the future. To help these budding entrepreneurs, we have built an entrepreneurship development cell which has an incubation center,” adds Dr. Yashvanth Bhupal. The college has a tie-up with Karnataka Information Technology, and every year, about ten student projects get selected and funding of Rs.3 lakh per project. The committee, which is headed by a renowned entrepreneur, evaluates the business model and works towards taking it to the next level.

With over 175 students coming on board every year, BITM has its hands full and is now working towards collaborating with international universities. Keeping an eye out for industry relevant courses, BITM is committed to creating a well-equipped workforce for the future.
