Employability of Indian engineering students has been a matter of concern for the industry for over a decade now. With an exponential increase in the number of substandard engineering colleges mushrooming in every corner of the country, the focus has unfortunately shifted from quality to quantity. In fact, the Annual Employability Survey 2019 by Aspiring Minds concluded that a whopping 80 percent of Indian engineers are not fit for any job in the knowledge economy. Falling way behind their American peers of whom 18.8 percent can code correctly, only 4.6 percent of Indian engineers possess the capability to write quality code. Needless to say, this raises pertinent questions about fresh engineering graduates getting hired by large organizations, which is a major point of concern for students and their parents alike.

Aditya Group of Engineering Colleges, a collective of Aditya Engineering College (Autonomous, located at Surampalem, Andhra Pradesh), Aditya College of Engineering and Technology (ACET)(affiliated to JNTU, Kakinada, NAAC accredited and ISO Certified, located at Surampalem, Andhra Pradesh), and Aditya College of Engineering(affiliated to JNTUA, Ananthapuramu, located at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh ) seems to have cracked the code to address these concerns about employability and placements. Located in Surampalem, the AICTE approved private colleges are striving to become the ‘first stop’ for companies in the recruitment process and in order to achieve the same have founded a training and placement cell that takes utmost care to groom students according to the needs of the industry. Laying emphasis on imparting Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) to students from the second year and encouraging them to take up internship programs, Aditya Group of Engineering Colleges ensures that its students have an upper hand while going out in the real corporate world.

Recognized by UGC under section 2(f)and 12(b) of the UGC Act 1956 and accredited by the NAAC, ACET has built a rather strong placement track record with over 52 companies having visited the campus for placements in 2019. The college successfully saw 300 of its students getting placed in prestigious organizations this year, a simple feat by no measures. Needless to say, various factors contribute towards making Aditya Group of Engineering Colleges a top choice for companies and students alike; let’s delve deeper into them.

Wide Course Range to Address Skill Gap

The massive skill gap facing various sectors of the Indian industry is an unfortunate reality today. A recent study concluded that employability for roles such as mechanical design engineer and civil engineer stood at a meager 5.55 percent and 6.48 percent respectively; faring marginally better are electronics engineers with 7.07 percent employ ability. However, faring abysmally in terms of tech skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), a mere 2.5 percent students and only 1.64 percent of chemical design engineers are fit for industry roles. Going by these figures, the growing skill gap is alarming and stringent steps must be taken to empower students with the right skill sets to attain jobs across sectors.

Leading the way to remedy these challenges, Aditya Group of Engineering Colleges has built a roster of varied courses that are aimed at providing students with the right know how based on the respective industries. The colleges collectively render six UG courses namely Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Technology. Enabling students to pursue higher studies in various domains, Aditya Group offers PG courses for Computer Science & Engineering, CAD/CAM, Embedded Systems, Structural Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Power Electronics, Master of Computer Applications and Master of Business Administration. “By providing multidimensional exposure to students in various aspects of industries such as technical training by APSSDC, THUM, and ELEPHOS, we ensure that students adapt to current technology trends,” says Dr. N Sesha Reddy, Chairman, Aditya Academy & ACET.

Furthering the college’s cause to create industry ready professionals is Aditya Group’s formidable faculty, which includes a total of 273 teaching members. Maintaining a strong student to teacher ratio, the college ensures that every student receives ample attention and care. Insisting on maintaining the highest
quality, the faculty is made up of 12 teachers possessing PhDs, 190 faculty members with an M.E./M.Tech and 71 faculty members with B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. The entire faculty undergoes periodic Faculty Development Programs in order to enhance their teaching methodologies and techniques.

Meritorious Pedagogy

Known for its creative dynamism and flexibility, Aditya Group’s varied programs helmed by a meritorious faculty blend skill development and value orientation that smartly shape students’ careers. An effective example is of Karanam Bala Siva Tarun Kumar, an ACET student who attended ‘Idea to Entrepreneur (i2E), Global Entrepreneurship Week-2018’ in Boston, US. At the event organized by APSSDC, he achieved a 100 percent sponsorship for both his team mates to participate in the prestigious event held at Northeastern University, Boston. The dedicated student is now working on his project and receiving appreciation by many.

Having benefitted from Aditya Group’s effective pedagogy, various students have achieved academic success, social and emotional development, acquisition of technical skills and a general ability to contribute to society. The college implements a student centric method with the help of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) techniques. “Through ICT, images can easily be used in teaching to improve the retentive memory of students; teachers can easily explain complex instructions and ensure students’ comprehension,” explains Dr. Sesha. Following the meritorious pedagogy, teachers create interactive classes and make the lessons more enjoyable, which ultimately improve students’ attendance and concentration. Having built a strong infrastructure, Aditya Group is also known to possess state-of-the-art laboratories and one of the best computing facilities in the region.

Aditya Group also houses a well-stocked library armed with 43,503 volumes, 62 print journals, over 3,000 videos lectures & e-books and a few hundreds of E-journals. Students can make use of various E-journals such as Springerlink Online Journals, Infotrac Engineering & Technology Collection, and Infotrac Management Collection. Students also receive access to lectures from world renowned professors, technologists and industrialist-scientists powered by EDUSATs Ekalavya channel. Aditya Group also possess the Unified Library Server for receiving National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a collaborative project carried out by the consortium of seven IITs and IISc programs that include video lectures from Stanford University.

Holistic Student Development

Complimenting Aditya Group’s effective teaching techniques, course structures and strong infrastructure is the positive and holistic environment that the college fosters. Understanding that young students who are living away from their families for the first time might face various academic, social or emotional challenges, Aditya Group has introduced the concept of proctoring. These appointed professionals identify, describe and thus suggest practical solutions to the challenges being faced by students.

Providing a home away from home to students, Aditya Group’s hostel facilities include nutritious food, good bedding and spacious rooms. With separate hostels for seniors and juniors, the college ensures 24/7 academic guidance by resident faculty. Students can also make use of round the clock library, separate T.V. & Internet facilities for seniors and juniors, and a gymnasium.

Nestled in an eco friendly area with thick greenery, students are also given ample opportunity to hone their creative skills. A host of extracurricular activities and events such as Karting Championship, Colours Youth Festival, Veda Tech Fest, various sporting events and annual campfires help students let their hair down and thrive in a culturally active environment.

The meritorious collective of colleges has recently founded research centres for mechanical and computer science engineering branches and is working to establish similar research centres for other departments in the years to come. The institution that began as Aditya Public School in 1984 at Kakinada has gradually yet surely expanded to include over 60 institutions, more than 6,000 employees and over 60,000 students at the college’s 180 acre campus at Surampalem. Treading on with the aim of creating well rounded, industry ready professionals for various industry sectors, Aditya Group is setting a grand example for institutions across the region.
