Post 90s when technology was taking the world by its strides, Indian economy progressed in all parameters and created a huge leeway of lucrative opportunities. The paradoxical situation on the field, however, narrates a different story. PMI statistics accounts that over 30 lakh graduates join the Indian job market every year, of which only five lakh are considered employable. This looming skill-employability gap directly questions higher education system that plays a vital role in preparing and upskilling on-the-go industry workforce. Earmarking skill development as its prime agenda, AISECT Group of universities (AGU)aims at advancing quality higher education to edify skilled industry professionals from the country’s education-deprived areas.

Established in 2006, AISECT Group of Universities is the only higher education group in India to lay an equitable focus on regular course curriculum, students’ employability and mandates skills courses alongside regular academics. Santosh Kumar Choubey, Founder, AISECT Group of Universities, states, “Carrying a three-decade long association with skilling activities throughout the country, we knew that skill development is necessary if we are to carve a self-sufficient workforce out of our vast population. Therefore, we decided to launch India’s first skills-based higher education group”. The group has four world-class branch universities namely – Dr. C.V. Raman University(Bilaspur), Rabindranath Tagore University (Bhopal), AISECT University (Hazaribag) and Dr. C.V. Raman University(Vaishali). The manifestation of such excellence won the university several accolades including World Education Awards Dubai (2015, 2016 and 2017), ASSOCHAM Excellence in Education Awards 2014, World Education Summit 2014 and many more.

Civic & Rustic Under One Varsity
Noting that Indian rural and semi-urban clusters lag miles behind metropolitans in terms of research and research literature, AISECT Group of Universities creates a research oriented environment through need-based intervention and provides affordable and accessible educational paradigm, driven by research, skill development, entrepreneurship motivation and overall personality. In fact, the universities aid meritorious students and faculty members with financial assistance and motivation under Shiksha Mitra Scholarship(amounting to Rs.2 crore). On the flip side, several research councils, Biotech Parks and Core Research Group (an autonomous body with annual budget of Rs.1 crore) promotes and integrates research on a single platform. No wonder, the universities edifies zealous industry-ready marvels with elite skills, irrespective of cost hindrance!

Pedagogy Anchored with Research, Skill & Technology
As research & skilling is core to AGU’s pedagogy, students have umpteen of subject choices for graduation, post-graduation, doctoral degree along with certifications in Yoga. This perusal, however, involves a common entrance examination ‘AISECT Joint Entrance Examination(AJEE)’based on which the universities are allocated. Also at this stage, Navratna Centres of Excellence bestows research and skill assistance in Energy, Material Science, Earth & Space Science, Agriculture, Arts & Literature, IoT & Cloud Computing, Science Communication, Entrepreneurship and Environmental Science. What makes AGU take an edge over in educational sector is the introduction of 55 skill development micro-courses, a compulsory credit with regular curriculum that facilitates hands-on training and tremendously helps in bridging higher education-skill development gap.

Rabindranath Tagore University is the only university to establish IoT Lab by Frugal & Intel and Cloud Computing Lab by Microsoft, AGU’s prowess lies in amalgamating modern technology with conventional tools to develop soft e-learning content, thus enhancing students technological skills in its state-of-the–art studios. Citing the mushrooming demand for Internet of Things(IoT), robotics and high-tech agriculture, the university introduced
tech-advanced programmes in-house. Everything, from chalk and talk to click and view, is availed in modern, smart classrooms. The highly experienced faculty follows ICT-loaded industry based CBCE curriculum while the core management ensures quality teaching, pedagogy and high-standard practices only.

With AGU there’s no standstill for opportunities, elucidating which Santosh asserts, “Owing to our cardinal policy of every individual’s holistic development and employability enhancement, and aided by AISECT’s three decades of experience in employment based vocational education, our universities hold the distinction of having some of the most successful placement cells in their respective regions”. Trailing this holistic perspective into educational framework, AGU’s Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Incubation Cell incorporates skills and employability in curriculum coupled with entrepreneurship incubation. The experience accentuates when students practice apprenticeship and develop their leadership skills while engaging with local & national level employers, hence, the transformation of novice scholars into competitive, industry-ready professionals before hand.

While all these activities are executed within the campus, students constantly participate in 15 international and 30 national level collaborations for their optimum exposure. For instance, AGU’s collaboration with Benaka Biotechnologies Inc, US empowered students to research extensively on Air Foil wind turbine and solar reflective materials, while its Platinum Advantage programme partnership with Microsoft enabled skill development through Microsoft certification courses. In line to upskilling, the university hosted an international conference with International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management(ICE WaRM), Australia wherein 20 countries chartered extensive reforms and roadmap for water management research. “Besides, we jointly conduct post-graduate courses in partnerships with BSNL and hold a forward-looking skills development partnership with Reliance Jio and Tata Group,” adds Santosh.
