Mit Academy Of Engineering: Transforming the World of Engineering through a Holistic Approach to Education
Dr. Shyam Shukla
Professor & Dean
MIT Academy of Engineering is on the path to preparing students for lifelong learning by transforming educational practices and promoting entrepreneurship & managerial skills. The organization consists of seven academic schools, which are the School of Electrical Engineering, School of Computer Engineering and Technology, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Humanities and Engineering Sciences, School of Design, School of Mechanical Engineering, and School of Civil Engineering. As a UGC-honored institute with academic autonomy, MIT Academy of Engineering offers a UG program in Civil Engineering through the School of Civil Engineering. “With a yearly intake of 60 students, the course is designed to encourage students to think, plan, design, construct, and maintain infrastructure innovatively. Additionally, the state-of-the-art laboratories enable us to meet the rigorous requirements for an engineering school, which helps students to understand the concepts of Civil Engineering effectively”, asserts Dr. Shyam Shukla, Professor, and Dean at MIT Academy of Engineering.
Promoting Holistic Development
Civil Engineering plays a crucial role in enhancing the lifestyle and health of society by designing and constructing infrastructure that could benefit people. As a result, the need to find skilled engineers becomes necessary and through the efforts of experienced and seasoned faculty members, MIT Academy of Engineering is encouraging students to learn various interdisciplinary skills and courses. Started in 2014, The School of Civil Engineering provides students with state-of-the-art infrastructure and laboratories which includes an Applied Mechanics lab, Geotechnical engineering,
Software lab, Surveying lab, Prototyping lab, testing of material, fluid mechanics, Transportation Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.
The School of Civil Engineering encourages students to participate in national and international workshops and conferences. With a vision of a state-of-the-art Civil Engineering School dedicated to the holistic development of students by imparting knowledge for ever-changing industrial, ecological, and social needs, the organization wishes to contribute to Civil Engineering in India. The USP of the course is domain-specific latest software capabilities that the organization exposes to the students. The department is divided into four forefront areas and the software relevant to different forefront area are available in the department. ETABS, RCDC, STAAD Pro, and STAAD Connect are available for the domain of mechanics, material, and structure. Similarly, MXROAD Suite, gINT Professional, Inroads Suite, STAAD foundation, and Soil SBC analysis template are available in geotechnical and transportation engineering, ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Fluent, Civilstorm, SewerCAD, SewerGEMS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS are available in environmental and water resource engineering, and Microsoft project, Prima Vera, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD are available in project planning and control forefront area. “We strive to transform civil engineering educational practices by focusing on research and helping students participate in humanitarian efforts. Our curriculum is flexible to accommodate the current concerns of society such as infrastructure development and sustainability”, adds Dr. Shyam.
The institute has a proven track record in academics and research and has NBA accreditation for the majority of departments, an A grade by NAAC, and 2(F)and 12(B) status from the UGC. “The organization also delves into the technical and analytical nuances of civil engineering. The technical capabilities include planning, estimation, FE analysis, and design of RCC/Steel structures and foundations for static and seismic conditions, Civil engineering material testing, traffic management systems, and more. The analytical capabilities further comprise of hydraulic design of pumping system, CFD analysis of pumps, hydraulic modeling, solid waste management, air pollution dispersion modeling and much more”, informs Dr. Shyam.
The Way Ahead
MIT Academy of Engineering offers opportunities to explore and experience various activities on the college campus. Apart from meeting new people and building a sense of community the students also have access to computer labs and equipped classrooms. There are various extracurricular that the students can participate in such as student council, cultural groups, academic and literary clubs, sports teams, and music ensembles. The campus life at MIT Academy of Engineering can be a rich and rewarding aspect of the college experience, offering students a chance to grow and develop in a supportive and stimulating environment. Special emphasis is given to the upgradation of staff knowledge and experience by sponsoring them for research and higher education. The organization provides opportunities for collaboration with elite national and international firms and universities and guest lectures and training programs by eminent industry experts.
Engineering colleges can play an important role in advancing sustainable development by educating and training the next generation of engineers who will be responsible for designing and implementing sustainable technologies and infrastructure. MIT Academy of Engineering through its curriculum, research, and student initiatives wants to focus on sustainability issues and address sustainability challenges in the future. The organization strives to create professionals who could create a better tomorrow through all-around development.
