The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills' Research Association (SASMIRA) is one of India's most reputed cooperative ventures set up in 1950 following independence to serve as a multifunctional institute for the scientific and technological needs of the textile industry. As an approved body of the Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India, SASMIRA has consistently adapted to the changing needs of the Indian textile industry. Over the years, it has emerged as a premier institute when it comes to offering learning modules that are industry-oriented.

The management institutes of SASMIRA ­ SASMIRA's Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) has inherited the rich educational heritage of SASMIRA, and has been featured among the Top 20 management institutes in Higher Education Review's, Beyond IIM's `Top 100 B schools Survey and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and SASMIRA's Business School (SBS) has also been approved by AICTE and DTE, Govt. of Maharashtra. Focused on synchronizing management education at par with international standards, SIMSR and SBS nurture professionals having ingenious business knowledge mixed with social ethics and values.

The learning programs offered at SASMIRA are filled with National and International Research Conferences, workshops, Domestic and International Industrial Visits, Functional Summits, and Guest Lectures by a rich network of over 1200 alumni. The visiting faculty is actively involved in mentoring sessions, student engagement programs, and career advancement guidance sessions. More than 95% of the faculty teaching in both the Institutes of SIMSR and SBS has completed their doctoral degree equipped with more than a decade of teaching experience, exhibiting strong research and teaching excellence throughout their careers.

Besides the learning modules, SASMIRA Institute also conducts Skill Development- "Kaushal" ­ at the Skill and Personality Development Centre (SPDC), catering to skill development programs specifically for SC/ST

students funded by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). SASMIRA Institutes have International collaboration with CASI Global New York, Glasgow UK, and are in the process of collaborating with Asia Pacific University as well. In addition to that, SASMIRA Institutes also have collaborations with MDIS, Singapore. In the Finance domain, the Institute collaborates with NSE, BSE, NSDL, NISM, and the HR domain with NHRD.

Recently, SASMIRA also collaborated with the E-Cell of IIT Bombay, NEN (Wadhwani Foundation), and Vishwaniketan Incubation Center for entrepreneurial initiatives. The Institute has also been proactive with Institute Innovation Cell (IIC) under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell, AICTE. Here, Annual Business Plan competitions are held to encourage student entrepreneurship, and several students have successfully started their ventures through the initiative.

Dr. Tandon Kamal holds a Doctorate in Management from IIEST Shibpur and has 30 years of industry and academic experience. Being a member of various professional and government bodies like the University Approval Committee (Government of Maharashtra), Bombay Management Association, and Indian Merchant Chamber, he has accumulated vast experience in research guidance and has a number of national and international research papers and an international patent to his credit.
