Dayananda Sagar University: Playing a Pivotal Role in Enhancing the Quality of Management Education in India

A. Nagaraj Subbarao, Dean-SCMS.MBA programs have proliferated in recent years; however, not all are equipped to provide a complete learning ecosystem. Today, one must look for an educational institution with a reputation for providing students with future-ready programs and training mechanisms. Furthermore, attracting and retaining competent faculty is critical to ensure that learning is delivered most effectively and efficiently. Business schools must look ahead and train students for job roles likely to exist a decade or so from now. Thus, it is critical to envision the future and prepare our pupils now for jobs that may not even exist in the present.

Dayananda Sagar University is part of the six decades old Dayananda Sagar Institutions legacy founded by the Late Hon'ble R Dayananda Sagar, a visionary and multifaceted personality of great repute. The university has transformed thousands of young Indian and international citizens into professionals in diverse specializations. The university is legislated as a state-private university under the aegis of the Karnataka Government and accredited by the UGC and AICTE. It has several verticals like management, engineering, medicine, applied health sciences, basic sciences, journalism, and law. The university is innovative in the way that programs are conceptualized and delivered with a curriculum that is carefully crafted and pedagogical tools that are proven.

Further, the School of Commerce & Management Studies (SCMS), which houses the business school wing of the university, has one of the most extensive Executive MBA programs for working professionals. The Executive Education vertical also delivers certificate programs in the business application of technology like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, FINTECH, and IoT. These programs strengthen the schools' industry connections.

"The full-time MBA program at the university is vastly different from other management programs because we are mindful of technology's impact on management, managerial practices, and life in general. The MBA program has a dual specialization framework with futuristic courses in the business application of Artificial Intelligence, Supply Chain Management, and Information Technology. The program also has traditional specializations in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance. Our students are trained for superior supervisory skills, communication abilities, and leadership qualities," says Prof.(CAPT)A. Nagaraj Subbarao, Dean-SCMS.
The driving force behind the management programs is the excellent faculty, both scholarly and practice professors. Professors have years of academic and professional experience, and many are from great educational institutions, both national and international. These teachers add immense value to the school's diverse academic portfolio, which includes a Doctoral, full time MBA, Executive MBA, BBA, B.Com, and various other certificate programs.

Dayananda Sagar Universities' business programs are one-of a-kind as we are student-centric, technologically aware, & driven by brilliant faculty & quality students in an environment of holistic learning, leading to exalted placement opportunities

Driving Innovation in Learning
The program curriculum is supported and embellished by innovative interventions. The undergraduate programs have several outreach programs allowing students to learn from peer groups, short projects, industry visits, and outbound leadership development exercises. The Centres of Proficiency Enhancement (COPE) in Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Digital Transformation, Communication, and Leadership drive hands-on learning. The MBA program's International Culture Appreciation Tour (ICAT) arranges for students to travel to a friendly foreign country to appreciate their culture and work practices. The school sources international case studies giving students an insight into international work practices.

Management programs are supported by exciting clubs which explore finance, human resources, energy and climate change, marketing, strategy, and sports. The school also offers students a world class business simulation allowing them to experience business holistically and the thrill of changing dynamics. Students from SCMS recently attained ‘Top-Spot’ in the 26th Student Management Games regional round conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) in Bengaluru.

As a technology friendly university, we understand that Bengaluru is developing as a FinTech and Data Analytics hub of international repute while retaining its importance as a global information technology destination. With this in the backdrop, SCMS holds workshops on FINTECH, Analytics, and AI regularly with international faculty. Further, the university periodically holds seminars concerning the stock market, entrepreneurship, and other critical aspects.

"We are thrilled to be rated as one of the top fifteen emerging Business Schools in India for two successive years, 2021 and 2022. As we advance, we would aim to build great academy-industry connections and be ranked among the top three business schools in Bengaluru, the top ten in South India, and the top fifty in India within the next five years. Also, we would like the school to become an impactful teaching and a prominent research & learning centre, where our faculty and students produce quality research publications and consulting excellence," concludes Prof A. Nagaraj Subbarao. The school will eventually move to a world-class campus in South Bengaluru. Here, it is integrated with brilliant facilities in sports, hostels, laboratories, libraries, classrooms, and other amenities that place it in a league of its own.
