Several years ago when global outburst was just dawning, India’s infrastructure conveyed unique architectural amazements that stood at every nook and corner of its expanse. instance, a predominant splash of blue limestone plaster over houses meant gliding through the streets of Jodhpur, while buildings in shades of pink only indicated Jaipur in its entire splendor. However, much has changed over the decades and the modern country’s core architectural DNA has undergone revolutionary transformations. But located in one of the most historic heritage districts Vijayapura (Karnataka), the renowned BLDEAs V.P. Dr. P.G. Halakatti College of Engineering & Technology (HCET) incepted in 1980 and eventually realized the dire need to retain India’s priceless architectural demeanor. It launched its architecture department a decade later to produce heirs who could recreate that long lost infrastructural exotica with a blend of modern architectural demands.

Since the 1990s saw less scope of the industry, being one among few,
BLDEAs V.P. Dr.P.G. HCET’s campus drew in a wonderful mix of students from various states, thus assuming its much reputed status ever since. Pillared onto producing quality architects, the institution presents an enriched curriculum module guided by the norms of AICTE and Council of Architecture, with every necessary facility and assistance provided to students under well facilitated infrastructure & faculty. Further accredited by the National Accreditation & Assessment Council of India (NAAC) and holding an ISO 9001-2015 certificate, the department houses fullfledged studios and facilities for seminars apart from a 'material museum' that exhibits a wide collection of all types of building materials and accessories. Students are encouraged to participate in several specialized related activities like NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture), ZONASA and NIASA to further augment Architectural interest and importance.

A Holistic Provision
Initiating an admission process in compliance with the State Government rules, the department intake is 40 out of which 45 percent are via the KEA and 55 percent via COMED-K and Managemnt. Further qualifying in NATA/IIT-JEE paper II is also mandatory for all categories of students. Post this, students are allowed to benefit from the richly bestowed campus under the mentorship of practicing architects who hold an upper hand in better acquainting students with the industry’s practical problems and trends. With every classroom/
Studio accommodating techpro teaching aids, several video conferencing facilities are also installed for various resource personnels to connect with and guidestudents accordingly. A distinguished departmental library holds as the perfect source for gaining enlightening insights as latest books on all aspects of architecture as well as other sources are well placed at student reach. A side this, resourceful placement cell rigorously trains students (from second year onwards) to produce industry ready individuals and has succeeded in amassing alumni who currently offer services on both native and international platforms.

Beside these promising academic provisions, BLDEAs V.P. Dr. P.G. HCET encourages participation of students in extracurricular activities and various social initiatives, and also holds significant tie ups with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), which conducts orientation and other programmes for the student’s holistic development. In awe of its contributions towards the architecture industry of India, the Professor & HOD, V.P. Tanksali, states, “We provide an ideal environment for the nurturing oftalents required for development of budding architects to face the challenges of architecture profession tomorrow. With this in view, we aim to broaden our prospects from a VTU affiliation, to an Autonomous Status under VTU and further evolve into a school of Architecture under BLDEA’s University”.
