Toyota Kirloskar Expands Vocational Training to Empower India's Youth

Toyota Kirloskar Motor(TKM) has launched various educational and vocational training programmes to empower economically underprivileged youth in Karnataka and across India on National Education Day. The various programs of TKM are to prepare youth, enable them to acquire employability skills for employment, to become self-sufficient, and thereby support India's industrial progress.
The core part of the mission of skill development is the Toyota Technical Training Institute, established in 2007. For more than 15 years, TTTI has granted free, high-quality technical education to economically disadvantaged young people, focusing on automobile manufacturing.
In line with the 'Skill India' initiative, TKM also launched the Toyota Kaushalya Programme, a two-year course under the 'Learn and Earn' model. This new offering lines up with TTTI's standard offerings because trainees will learn and earn simultaneously by combining classroom instructions with OJT at Toyota's facilities.
The second anchor is the Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP), a collaborative effort with industrial training institutes throughout India. T-TEP was successful in establishing 60 centers that trained over 13,000 students across the country. A well-rounded technical curriculum combined with hands-on skills training in one of Toyota's dealerships provided students with an opportunity to work hands-on with leading automotive technologies and industry standards.
With the intention of upgrading its employees' skills, TKM involves some of its selected employees in the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), in which a part of its workforce is trained and gains experience through work experience in Japan for six months to five years. Such an exchange program promotes technical competencies while strengthening India-Japan cooperation and allows knowledge to flow between the two countries.
"This is indeed the commitment we strive to create with education and an all-round development at TKM in support of National Education Day 2024", added G Shankara, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. He added, "This effort helps us to become one of the world's great powers for many more generations by becoming well-learned productive citizens, equipped with proper training".
Under partnership with Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC) as an Industrial Training Provider, TKM has stretched its coverage in Karnataka. Aiding to establish 16 GTTC institutes in Karnataka since the MoU signed in 2021, TKM expects their increase up to 36 centers by 2026. This helps to provide automobile welding and assembly training to students, and it takes them through valuable skills within the automotive industry.
