Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu sent off a delegation of 70 teachers on an educational trip to Singapore, under a government initiative aimed at providing state educators international exposure and high-level training.

Referring to the send-off ceremony, CM said the state government had taken steps of monumental magnitude to strengthen and modernize the education system. "Journey broadens knowledge and enhances experience", he added, saying that such initiatives would go a long way in making Himachal Pradesh a model state for quality education.

The state government has signed an agreement with Singapore's world-class Principals Academy to impart training to Himachali teachers at international standards. This, Sukhu further stated, would be for developing the knowledge, skills and pedagogy of teachers, which in turn would have a direct effect on students and change the education system into an inclusive, effective and modern model.

My government will work towards continuous and constructive change in the education sector. Himachal would be the best state in the nation to deliver quality education by 2032", he announced.

Sukhu added that the reforms in the past two years are already delivering positive results. Citing the January 2025 Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), he said that Himachal Pradesh children had the best reading abilities in India. "On various education parameters, the state has been a high achiever. State surveys also reflect significant improvement in the student learning levels", he added.

He emphasized the necessity of reforming school curricula and proposed introducing general knowledge as a subject to promote all-round development. "The state will soon unveil a new education policy in the interest of overall development of students. Along with administrative reforms, we are also taking new-age initiatives, like streamlining the transfer process, to enhance the overall quality of education", he added further.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, who was also present, added that 267 teachers had already been sent to Singapore under the programme so far, and the programme would be replicated in the future. He stressed that it was not an ordinary trip but a visionary step towards revamping the education system. "High-quality training will usher in fundamental improvements in the teaching-learning process", he added.

Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar informed the CM and guests about the importance of the Singapore visit and other flagship education initiatives. State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha Rajesh Sharma reported his observations on the innovations being initiated under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
