Among them were wonderful leaders who happened to be directors, deans, and professors of various institutes like IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Ropar and leaders from the headquarters of Samsung. In the summit, in detail, came up the discussion on the necessity to bring closer institutions with academia in advance areas which included Visual AI, Graph Neural Networks (GNN), Neuro-symbolic AI, and Health AI.
A Vision for the Future
The event kicked off with a keynote address by KY Roo, Managing Director of SRI-N, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the summit’s potential to redefine the future of research and innovation. “The Academic Summit 1.0 aims to create a collaborative platform where academic brilliance meets industrial ingenuity. By fostering this dialogue, we envision groundbreaking solutions that address real-world challenges and shape the future of technology,” he said.
Insights from IIT Leaders
Among the notable speakers were Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, and Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of IIT Kanpur, who emphasized the need for deeper engagement between academia and industry. They stressed how joint efforts could fuel innovation, enhance the internationalization of education, and ensure timely delivery of impactful research to industries.
Prof. Ahuja highlighted that IITs, with their strong intellectual foundation, have an unmatched potential to collaborate with industry leaders such as Samsung to create transformative technologies. He said, “By joining forces with Samsung, we can accelerate India’s growth as a technological powerhouse.”
Groundbreaking Research Presentations
Throughout the summit, researchers from IITs presented some groundbreaking projects Prof. Santosh Kumar Vipparthi shared research works on Deep Learning-based Burst Super Resolution, exploring how AI can improve imaging technologies.
Prof. Sayan Ranu presented on Graph Neural Networks and their applications for Samsung Electronics, a key innovation area for data processing.
Prof. Koteswar Rao Jerripothula delved into Dichotomous Segmentation via the aggregation of various foreground detection models, providing potential advancements in image analysis.
Prof. Tushar Sandhan showcased innovative approaches to portrait background generation with pose and light constraints, addressing visual enhancement.
Prof. Kshity Jadhav discussed AI and machine learning’s role in revolutionizing healthcare, with a particular focus AI models high accuracy on low-labeled data.
Prof. Srikanta Bedathur presented on Multimodal and Neuro-Symbolic AI for Knowledge Graph Questioning Answering (KGQA).
Strengthening Academia-Industry Ties
The summit’s numerous networking sessions were instrumental in fostering deeper collaborations between academia and industry. Participants engaged in vibrant discussions, exploring potential partnerships that could lead to joint research projects and innovations.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with thought leaders and industry experts.
“The summit provided a unique platform to connect, learn, and collaborate. These interactions will undoubtedly drive future research initiatives,” said a participant from SRI Noida.
The Power of Collaboration
The success of Academic Summit 1.0 demonstrated the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the world’s biggest challenges, from digital transformation to healthcare innovation. The event’s key takeaways included the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry to foster innovation and deliver impactful solutions.
In the future, the Samsung Research Institute in Noida will ride on the success of the very first Academic Summit 1.0 and build out further collaboration to shape and design the future of India and the world. Think about this momentum as a snowball rolling down a slope, gathering size and momentum-it's going to do a lot of damage for the future editions of summits.
This event has acted as a solid starting point for all subsequent events. It reiterated the promise of Samsung in the pursuit of uniting academia with industry stalwarts to breach this divide. In the thriving ambience of knowledge and innovation, Samsung does nothing but create and nurture seeds for a more beaming, innovative India for the future. Every single program acts like a brick laying in the form of a strong frame within which growth is observed in the spheres of diverse disciplines.
