In response to the surging demand for skilled professionals in emerging technologies, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), IIT Ropar, and Masai School have introduced a jointly certified minor programme in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). Announced on Friday, the course features seven comprehensive modules: fundamentals of prompt engineering, introduction to machine learning, data handling and processing, neural networks and deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), functioning of large language models (LLMs), and a capstone project.

"Integrating AI into our curriculum underscores our commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge competencies that are highly sought after in today's job market", stated Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). He emphasized that AI education is crucial for preparing the workforce to meet future challenges and maintaining India's competitive edge globally.

The credit-linked micro-specialisation in AI and ML is currently the most in-demand and highest-paying tech job in India. The programme is meticulously designed to provide learners with the necessary skills, knowledge, and industry exposure to thrive in the rapidly evolving tech landscape, according to the course developers.

Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, highlighted the programme's balance between academic rigor and practical application, ensuring a holistic educational experience for students. The initiative aims to foster a robust talent pool equipped to meet the needs of the growing AI job market.

A recent report by HRtech platform GetWork indicates that cities like Jaipur, Gwalior, Haridwar, Jodhpur, and Agra are experiencing a boom in AI job opportunities. Driven by talent growth, the AI market in India is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.5 percent, reaching $5.1 billion by 2027.

"We are not just transforming education; we're sculpting a new paradigm in skill-based learning, creating a dynamic talent pool primed for global success", said Prateek Shukla, Co-Founder and CEO of Masai School.
