National Education Policy a Turning Point in Indian Education: VP Jagdeep Dhankhar

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, when fully implemented, will bring transformative changes to India’s educational landscape, as it aligns with the nation’s civilizational ethos and values.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 99th annual meeting of Vice Chancellors, organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at Amity University, Noida, Dhankhar described NEP 2020 as a landmark development after more than three decades of stagnation in the education sector.

“I must share with you that after more than three decades, something has happened which has truly changed the landscape of our education. I am referring to the National Education Policy 2020”, he said, adding that the policy was shaped after extensive public consultation involving input from hundreds of thousands of people.

Drawing from his past experience as the former Governor of West Bengal, the Vice President emphasized his close association with the development of the NEP and praised its inclusive and visionary framework.

Mr. Dhankhar also paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Balidan Diwas, calling June 23 a historic day in Indian history. Remembering Mookerjee’s contribution to the integration of Jammu and Kashmir, he quoted the iconic slogan: “Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan hoga desh mein, do nahin honge”.

He criticized Article 370, stating it caused prolonged suffering and division. “For too long, we suffered under Article 370, which bled both us and the state of Jammu and Kashmir in several ways”, he said.

The event highlighted the vital role of universities in implementing NEP and nurturing future-ready leaders rooted in Indian values.
