  • IREDA calls for setting up dedicated green skilling centers to support 3 million clean energy jobs by 2030.
  • Collaborates with IITs and top institutes to create a strong green knowledge and innovation ecosystem.
  • Plans clean energy education and awareness drives in Delhi-NCR schools to engage and inspire youth.

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) is putting education and green skilling at the center of India’s clean energy transition. Speaking at the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE) in New Delhi, IREDA CMD Shri Pradip Kumar Das emphasized the need for specialized training and educational initiatives to prepare India’s youth for the green jobs of the future.

With nearly 3 million green jobs projected by 2030, Shri Das stressed that a skilled workforce is just as critical as funding and technology in achieving the country’s renewable energy goals. “India’s transition to clean energy won’t happen with capital and technology alone, we need people who are trained and ready”, he said.

He shared that IREDA is now a fully paperless organization and is actively working with academic institutions, including IITs, to co-develop a knowledge hub that promotes research, innovation, and green skills training.

So far, IREDA has financed renewable projects totaling over 27 GW, helping create 6 lakh jobs during construction and 50,000 long-term jobs in operations and maintenance. But Shri Das believes this is just the beginning.

As part of its wider mission, IREDA is also running green education and awareness campaigns in schools across Delhi-NCR, under the Seva Pakhwada initiative. These sessions aim to educate students on the importance of sustainability, renewable energy, and India’s role in the global climate effort.

The agency is also supporting health, education, and rural development projects under its CSR arm, reinforcing that a just energy transition must uplift all sections of society.
