  • Government to include Ayurveda in health education at schools and colleges
  • NCERT and UGC developing course modules to promote holistic health
  • AYUSH ministry focuses on research and blending traditional and modern medicine

The Indian government is working to bring Ayurveda into the health education curriculum for schools and colleges, aiming to connect young people with holistic health practices. Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) are collaborating to create course modules that will introduce Ayurveda alongside modern science. States like Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh have already included Indian traditional knowledge in their school programs.

Jadhav highlighted that the ministry is also pushing evidence based research to strengthen Ayurveda’s global credibility. Institutions like the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) are conducting clinical trials, while partnerships with the World Health Organization (WHO) help set standards for Ayurvedic treatments.

The minister emphasized that Ayurveda and allopathy are complementary, not rivals. The government is promoting an integrated healthcare model through the National AYUSH Mission and AYUSH Grid, deploying AYUSH doctors in rural health centers to improve access to primary care.

Jadhav also pointed to India’s achievements in promoting traditional medicine worldwide, including giving Yoga a global identity, establishing the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, and fostering international partnerships.
