The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has launched a new Bachelor of Technology (BTech) course in Engineering Physics, scheduled to start in the 2025 academic year. This new-age program aims to provide the students with a strong foundation in physics and engineering concepts to prepare them for employment in emerging fields like semiconductors, quantum computing, and advanced materials.

The BTech in Engineering Physics at IIT Jammu seeks to close the gap between basic physics and engineering practices. The curriculum is designed to equip students with a strong grasp of physical principles, together with hands-on engineering expertise. This multidisciplinary approach is meant to promote innovation and enable graduates to solve intricate problems in new technological domains.

Admissions to the Engineering Physics program will be made through the JoSAA counselling procedure, as per the JEE Advanced 2025 ranks. The JoSAA counselling will start on June 3, 2025, after the announcement of JEE Advanced results on June 9, 2025. Candidates need to register on the official JoSAA portal and go through the counselling rounds to get a seat in the program.

BTech graduates in Engineering Physics will be suitably placed to join careers in numerous high-tech sectors. The focus of the programme on quantum technologies, semiconductor physics, and advanced materials science is reflective of the increasing need for professionals with expertise in these fields. Secondly, the excellent placement track record of IIT Jammu, with more than 175 recruiters visiting the campus during the 2024 placement season, speaks volumes about the institute's focus on securing strong career opportunities for its students.
