IISR, Kozhikode laboratories received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories(NABL) for testing the quality of spices and organic manures . This is an important milestone for enhancement in the quality assurance processes in respect of spices and organic fertilizers. The recognition of NABL certification is also accredited internationally. Thus, testing meets the International standards, making the result more precise and dependable.
This recognition also goes down with the efforts IISR made to enhance quality and efficiency in testing procedures, thereby cutting the turnaround time in delivering the results. The certification depicts the institute's commitment to upholding the stringent standards of quality in the spice and manure being processed.
In modern sustainable agriculture, the quality of organic manure is a critical factor to secure productivity to farms. Key parameters such as moisture content, pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon, and the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are crucial to indicate the quality of organic manure.
With this accreditation, IISR is positioned to support the spice processing industry to provide the essential testing services with respect to the quality parameters like piperine, oleoresin, curcumin, moisture content etc to adhere to regulatory requirements and enhance consumer confidence in spices available in the market. This will help go a long way in ensuring the quality and purity of spices, from a laboratory that meets rigorous standards for quality and competence.
There are also plans to pursue NABL accreditation for additional parameters/scope for holistic coverage of regulatory requirements of spices samples. The scientists associated with the accreditation process are V.Srinivasan,. Shamsudheen M,. Sivaranjani R and technical assistants, Karthika N and Sajina O for sample analysis.
