ICFAI University Observed Swachhta Pakhwada for 15 Days

si TeamICFAI University, Hyderabad observed 15 days long Swachh Bharat Pakhwada (Cleanliness Drive Fortnight) as per the guidelines of the UGC in the University campus and its surrounding areas during September 1 – 15, 2017. At the Valedictory event, the Vice-Chancellor Dr J Mahender Reddy spoke about the significance of cleanliness in lives of human beings. The VC further said that if we would not be serious now towards hazards caused due to lack of cleanliness, then in the coming years the environment would be more polluted and living conditions may be very difficult for human beings on the earth.



On the first few days, students focused entirely on tidying up the campus and surrounding areas. The “Clean Campus Day”, and “Clean Hostel Day” saw participants working together to clean various sections of the campus, like the main entrance, the stairways, the various hostels, and also the paths leading to different buildings within the campus. Continuing this spirit, the following day was dedicated to keeping the campus “Green”,by tending to the gardens and the lawns. Energy conservation, one of the key initiatives to ensuring a safer environment, was also talked about the importance of solar panel water heating systems used by the University.

Some of the highlights of the event included the visit to an orphanage Mahima Ministries School, Ameenpur village where participants gave a presentation regarding the “Swacch


Bharat” program, teaching children how to do their part in keeping the environment clean. They also distributed various items, to keep the children motivated for the same. The students also visited the nearby village Janwada, Shankarpally Mandal, wherein they interacted with the local residents and educated them about the importance of cleanliness in day to day life.

A visit to Shankarpally Railway Station, Bus Stand and Primary Health Centre was also on the schedule, wherein volunteers involved in cleanliness activities and learned about the hygiene system implemented there, and the proper disposal of garbage and hospital wastes.



Further more, contests like the cleanest hostel room, an essay writing and also an elocution competition were conducted as a part of the program. Cash prizes worth up to Rs.10,000/- were awarded to the winners of each category during this campaign. “Change can only be brought about when we all are ready to dirty our hands, quite literally, in trying to clean up the mess around us. The University’s efforts are commendable, and we hope to see those bear fruit in the near future”, said Prof. G Madhavi, Convenor for the entire event.Over these 15 days, close to 2,000 students participated voluntarily in this cleanliness drive, she added.

The core participants for this event included members from Student Clubs from ICFAI Business School, ICFAI Tech School, ICFAI Law School, Faculty and Administrative staff of the University.
