Several universities had either postponed their examination or have even canceled it due to the pandemic spread. But, is this an ideal option? Would it yield a healthy education system? Is a million-dollar question. For ages now, we have been accustomed to the traditional method of rote learning and appearing to the examinations.

However, the present situation is demanding the universities and various other examinations to skip their examination. What impact would this decision leave on the education board’s quality as well as would it even minimize their knowledge gained by the students?

Presently, the government’s new National Educational Policy that has been approved by the Union Cabinet set its main focus on complete systematic reforming of the education system across the country. This includes the revision of the school syllabus, changes in the structure of board examinations to test core competencies, revising the structuring of the school years, and even the introduction of the most revolutionary changes in the pipeline that is set to impact the overall education system all over the country. The new education policy 2020 would be noted that the last changes in the education policy of India were done in the year 1986.

However, the new education policy has revealed that where ever possible the medium of instruction until a minimum of grade five, or even until grade eight and beyond would be eligible to study in their mother tongue or their local language making their learning process easier. This instruction would be followed by both private as well as public schools. Presently, the Indian education system offers a traditional method of 10+2 school education system and with this method, the syllabus would be revised as the 5+3+3+4 system, wherein the first 5 years would include three years of pre-school education and class one and two. This lay the foundation of the education for the students which is followed by three years of pre-primary education from classes three to five and three years of preparatory education and classes six and eight and the focus years of secondary education from class 9 to 12.

The education system also gives the privilege to the students to pick the subject and courses they are interested to study as the schools will not have any rigid form of the three streams. Thus, all the subjects would be offered at two levels of proficiency.

The examination is quite stressful for the students and is much-hyped especially for the board exams of class 10 and 12 which are immensely stressful for the student and this would be revamped as well. The focus will now be shifted to test the core competencies (concepts) of students and not rote learning. It is aimed to promote the quest for knowledge in children and help in their holistic development. According to the NEP, all students would be allowed to take Board Exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired.

Though the examinations are stressfully eliminating them would degrade the over quality of the education. Thus, it is ideal to take up examination by minimizing its stress level.
