Educating Tribal- Impetus India towards Better Future

Separator
Despite serious measures taken by the Indian government to make education accessible to everyone, the tribal getting access to education still remains to be a dream. India has various tribes, each section has its own requirements and thus many have been ignored. India possesses the largest tribal population and it is also underprivileged in our country. Thus, to elevate the tribe, education is one of the most powerful weapons to induce socio-economic development among these tribes.

The education division of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the State Governments administrations has introduced various schemes to improve education access to the tribal areas by constructing hostels for tribal students.

Benefits of Educating Tribal Students
India is the largest tribal population in the world, is one of the major factors that could bring change in the overall condition of this tribal population is that education. An educated individual has the capacity to collectively bringing in substantial changes and enhance the whole community. Besides, proper education will not just benefit the tribal population but benefit the entire economy of the country. Alongside, implementing effective education resources for the tribal community will either fetch immediate changes in their state of living or enhance their future living conditions.
Education is the only primary factor that can aid people to overcome their income barriers and develop the horizon of the community when it comes to making career choices, build confidence, personal growth, and sustained development in well-being. It is the most supreme and vital parameter to provide a better future for the tribal population. Consequently, many professors and educationists lay prime emphasis on offering education for all. Even the government has adopted various measures to conduct this practice, thereby adding to the development of the country.

Tribal Literacy Rate
The education rate of a particular country or a state indicates the development of that particular area and the literacy rate of the tribal population in India is not just considerably lesser but it is below average. However, education is a chief measure that would aid in upgrading the economic and social stature of the Scheduled Tribes. Sufficient knowledge regarding social responsibilities will help individuals overcome challenges in life without having to feel inferior or under-qualified. Currently, the tribal community not just lags behind the general population but is way too behind the Scheduled Caste community in terms of literacy and education attainment.

Focusing on the tribal women, the difference is even worse as the Scheduled Tribe women have the lowest literacy rates in India. Despite the government has put in tremendous efforts to build equality among both genders, there is still a visible breach in the literacy rate between the male and female population of the Scheduled Tribe. These tribes are not just behind in the literacy rate but the overall aspects of development.

The main reason for the decline is being unaware of the programs, policies, and development schemes that are conducted for the upliftment of the tribal people who are unable to engage in any of these. Education, particularly primary education, is believed to be a lifesaver and acts as a compound catalyst in the development of tribals as it implants within them the confidence to deal with the people belonging to a group superior to theirs.

Measure to Promote Education among Tribal Students
The educational bodies should combine well with the tribal background and their lifestyle. Initially, the medium of instruction should be the one that is common to them, and then proceed to that could be encouraged to take up regional languages. Tribal education should not be restricted to learning alone but, it should also invoke the responsibilities of the concerned individual towards his entire community.
