The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at NITI Aayog and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) announced a new partnership aimed at fostering innovation across the Global South. This collaboration seeks to develop joint innovation programs, leveraging India's successful innovation models to support countries on similar development paths.

Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized India's strength in innovation, stating, "This groundbreaking partnership between AIM and WIPO will extend India's innovation frameworks to other developing nations, enhancing understanding and awareness of intellectual property rights from the school level. This initiative is poised to unlock global innovation potential and promote inclusive, sustainable economic growth".

Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of WIPO Academy, highlighted the crucial role of intellectual property (IP) in driving innovation and creativity, vital for addressing youth development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Saadallah noted, "Our focus on youth is central to building a more inclusive global IP ecosystem. This partnership with AIM underscores WIPO’s commitment to involving youth in innovation and creativity".

Last year, WIPO Director General Daren Tang visited the AIM ecosystem and praised Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and
Atal Incubation Centers (AIC) as exemplary models for innovation and entrepreneurship, advocating for their use in South-South cooperation.

Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, welcomed WIPO’s recognition of India’s entrepreneurship model, calling it a significant achievement. "This partnership strengthens the already productive relationship between NITI Aayog and WIPO, enhancing national competitiveness", Bery added.
