National Public School(NPS), Varthur, was founded with this very vision, to offer high-quality, value-based education at an accessible fee structure, ensuring that students from all walks of life have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in a nurturing environment. Under the leadership of Chairman Dr K.P. Gopalakrishnan, Director Pramod Srinivas, and Dean Harsha Kamal, NPS Varthur began its first academic session in June 2024, marking a significant milestone for the NPS Group of Institutions.
Nurturing Through Holistic Learning
NPS Varthur nurtures students through a balanced blend of academics, extracurricular activities, and strong cultural values. It is well-equipped with modern infrastructure. Students from Grade 1 regularly access the Math Lab, Composite Science Lab, and Computer Lab. Pre-primary students benefit from a dedicated Montessori Lab and interactive tools for literacy, numeracy, and environmental awareness. Beyond academics, students participate in inter-school competitions such as debates, cultural events, Abacus, and Spell Bee, showcasing their talents across various domains. The school offers a wide range of programs that promote all-round development. From Monday to Friday, students engage in both academic and co-scholastic periods.
Every child is given one hour per week for hobby classes, including Math Lab, Science Lab, Podcast Club, and Baking Club, which encourage creativity and exploration. In addition, students are part of extracurricular activity clubs that focus on individual sports, giving them opportunities to develop athletic skills beyond regular PE classes. “We believe true education happens when rigorous academics are balanced with activities like music, dance, art, sports, theatre, and club-based learning in science, math, computers, and wellness. We help students become confident, creative, and well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world by integrating classroom learning with handson experiences”, asserts Aracha Sinha, Principal, NPS Varthur.
What truly sets NPS Varthur apart is its learner centric and activity-based teaching approach. Moving away from traditional methods, teachers here design interactive lessons suited to different learning styles. With the support of subject matter experts, every lesson is planned thought fully, ensuring each child is engaged and understood. Continuous observation and collaboration help maintain high teaching standards across all subjects.
Above all, the school believes in instilling cultural values. Every morning begins with a ‘Namaste’, and gestures of respect and honesty are consistently encouraged. “We also have initiatives like Sparsh, where students practice empathy and inclusion, Dayitv, where they engage in meaningful community service, and Paryavaran, where they learn to value and protect the environment. These initiatives are designed to empower our students to grow as kind, aware, and active contributors to society”, informs Aracha.
Ensuring Safety & Security
At NPS Varthur, student safety is treated as the highest priority, with special attention to the well-being of every child, especially girls. All classrooms and school buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, continuously monitored by a dedicated team. For younger grades, including Grades 1 and 2, class teachers accompany students to all activities such as PE and library sessions. A lady teacher is always present during such transitions, and female security staff are stationed on campus and actively patrol the premises throughout the day. Washrooms are regularly checked, and children’s movements are closely supervised. Further, the school integrates age-appropriate awareness programs into the curriculum, promoting personal safety, responsible behavior, and respect for others, creating a secure and nurturing environment for all students.
Selecting Educators
Selecting the right teaching staff is a meticulous and multi-step process. At NPS Varthur, the recruitment process begins with a thorough review of academic qualifications. For pre-primary levels, candidates must hold at least a graduate or post-graduate degree, along with a professional qualification such as MTT (Montessori Teacher Training) or NTT (Nursery Teacher Training). For primary classes and beyond, a graduate or post-graduate degree accompanied by a B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) is mandatory. However, qualifications alone are not enough, relevant teaching experience is equally important. For Grade 1, a minimum of 3–4 years of experience is required. For middle school, 7–8 years and for high school, 10–12 years is expected.
Beyond qualifications and experience, the selection process includes a written test, a classroom demo session, and a detailed evaluation by the academic coordinator. The final round of selection involves an interaction with senior management. Through this comprehensive approach, the school ensures that only skilled, passionate, and student-centric educators join the team. The goal is to foster a learning environment led by professionals who not only understand the curriculum deeply but are also equipped to inspire, guide, and support every learner.
Vision for Growth & Innovation
As the school continues to grow, plans are underway to introduce advanced programs such as STEM education, robotics, and coding classes to equip students with 21st-century skills. The school also aims to enhance experiential learning through educational excursions and inter-school trips. Additionally, there are discussions around launching inter-school exchange programs to foster cultural understanding and collaborative learning. “If you are looking for a school that balances strong academics with co-curricular and extracurricular excellence in a well-structured environment, you have found the right place. We warmly welcome all parents to be a part of the NPS Varthur family, where we value your feedback, involvement, and trust”, concludes Aracha.
