From live performances and recording to scoring for films and gaming, musicians can seamlessly turn their passion into a rewarding career. There is a growing demand for skilled musicians, sound engineers, and music producers in the industry, underscoring the potential for music to be more than just a hobby. However, building a career in music requires more than raw talent, it demands a structured approach to learning, access to high quality equipment, and continuous practice in a professional setting. But there’s a catch. In India, musicians have limited access to dedicated training facilities, a shortage of personalized mentorship, and disruptions during practice sessions. Music schools like GSS School of Music are addressing these challenges through technology enabled learning experiences that engage students and develop the precision necessary to thrive in a competitive field.

A Vision for Structured Education
The GSS School of Music, founded and directed by a passionate music educator Surya Bharadwaj in 2016, is dedicated to fostering musical talent in an environment that merges professional facilities with an atmosphere conducive to serious learning. “During my early experience in teaching music and while studying audio engineering at Music Launch in Chennai, I envisioned a music academy offering a structured, supportive, and technologically advanced space for students”, says Surya Bharadwaj, Founder & Instructor, GSS School of Music. From the outset, the institute has prioritized high-quality equipment and a well-curated curriculum to accelerate students’ progress, train them to be precise in their craft,
and prepare them for public performances. The students gain hands-on experience through video and audio recording as well as live performance opportunities, further enhancing their musical journey.

Focussed, Distraction-Free Practice
In many music schools, students are often placed in shared rooms where the sounds of others practicing, along with external noise, can disrupt their focus and hinder their learning experience. To address this, the institute provides each student with high-quality headphones and dedicated audio equipment, ensuring a distraction-free environment that supports effective learning and uninterrupted practice. Along with headphones, each student receives a dedicated setup, including a computer and an audio interface. In addition, it combines advanced equipment with an audio-visual training method that makes learning music engaging and effective.

GSS School of Music will soon house premium facilities with personalized recording studios to inspire students to explore their creative potential fully

The students can learn and practice in separate spaces for different instruments, including air-conditioned halls for guitar and piano, two vocal cabins, and a designated content room for video production. Equipped with a recording studio and electronic drum kits for controlled sound, the institute provides its students with professional grade tools and facilities to facilitate a complete musical education. Experienced faculty at the institute are adept in various music styles and tailor lessons based on each student’s interests. With an eye on the teaching methodologies of leading institutions like Trinity and Berklee, GSS School of Music has woven elements of these established curricula into its own, ensuring students benefit from high-caliber training. Furthermore, it emphasizes individualized guidance, where instructors constantly assess students’ progress and explore ways to enhance learning outcomes through regular discussions and facility upgrades.

Adapting to New Rhythms
Over the years, GSS School of Music has adapted to shifts in music education trends, especially during and after COVID-19. Initially focused on offline classes, it embraced online offerings post-pandemic, continuously upgrading facilities to deliver quality experiences for both online and in-person students. The school also integrates technology to streamline the learning experience, utilizing interactive apps like Guitar Pro, Yousician, and Synthesia, which make learning enjoyable for students, particularly younger ones who benefit from gamified learning environments. GSS School of Music will soon house premium facilities with personalized recording studios to inspire students to explore their creative potential fully.
