Dr. Snehalata G. Nadiger
Principal
For the past 28 years, Dr. Snehalata has worked in the field of education. She began her career as a faculty member in a women's college and would end it as Head of the Institution at the autonomous NMKRV College for Women, which is recognized by the MHRD for PMYUVA and Unnath Bharath Abhiyan. Additionally NAAC accredited, Bangalore University recognizes the college's research centres in commerce and chemistry. The college has received funding from DST-FIST, UGC-STRIDE, and the DBT STAR College Scheme. Dr. Snehalata states, “Way back in 1973, there were not many colleges providing higher education to women. My ambition is in line with our donor’s wishes, i.e., to provide meaningful higher education to girl students".
Providing Growth Opportunities to Women
NMKRV College for Women is making a concerted effort to reduce girl student
dropouts by counselling them and their families to continue their education and financially and morally support them. Dr. Snehalata believes that the introduction of new courses and subjects which are based on the employment and skill opportunities for female students order to motivate and encourage them to pursue higher education. She adds, “We have also introduced a four year integrated B.A.+B.Ed and B.Sc.+B.Ed. Students who aspire to become teachers join this course. We believe in experiential and participatory methods of learning. These types of learning assist the students in critical thinking, solving problems, and also help in decision making".
All UG students enrolled in physics, chemistry, mathematics, botany, zoology, microbiology, biotechnology, computer science, and psychology must participate in their labs, conduct experiments, and complete small research projects as part of their experiential learning. The school engages students in case-based and cooperative or community-based learning in subjects such as humanities, languages, history, sociology, economics, and tourism, for example, through Unnat Bharath Abhiyan, in which NMKRV College for Women has adopted five villages near Bannerghatta Road.
Field trips, industry internships, and project based training are arranged for M.Com, M.Sc. Chemistry, Data Science, Maths, Psychology, Biotechnology, and MA Journalism & Mass Communication Post Graduation courses.Participatory learning involves students actively participating in the learning process through group discussions, role plays, debates, storytelling, and case studies.
Providing Industry Oriented Curriculum for Women’s Education
By providing holistic education to female students, NMKRV College For Women, led by Dr. Snehalata, aims to 'Educate, Enrich, and Empower' the girl child in the society. Women's education is critical for individual and societal development. Equal educational opportunities for women and girls contribute to gender equality, higher living standards, and economic growth. Governments and societies are collaborating to address the barriers to women's access to education and ensure that all girls can learn and reach their full potential. A few NMKRV College For Women students' parents works as day labourers, drivers, labour contractors, and more. Some of the girls are the first generation to enter Degree Colleges, and their numbers are growing by the day and year.
Dr. Snehalata credits the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) leading to an increased demand for skill-based education at NMKRV College For Women. As a result, NMKRV College For Women has several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with skill training partners and industries such as Merck-Life Science, Miles Education, Canon, IT for Change, and others provide customized technical, skill-based training. This training enables students to find work in industries/ companies such as Capgemini, Wells Fargo, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Biocon, EY, Qspiders, and others that pay more than five lakhs per year. The NMKRV College for Women, the R.V. College of Engineering, and the DAPM Dental College have collaborated to train undergraduates and postgraduates in Merck-specific experiments and projects.
