Smita Patil Public School: Unlocking Rural Brilliance While Igniting Young Minds Beyond Imagined Boundaries

President - SMC & Trust
The school was set up by it’s visionary Founders Shri. Shivajirao & Smt. Vidya Patil in the Memory of their daughter Late Smita Patil, a well-known and beloved actor. The focus was making quality English medium education accessible to the children of median to low income farmers communities & afford them a level playing field as they forayed into higher education.
Nestled in the serene landscapes of Shirpur Taluka in Dhule district, the students begin their day meditating under open skies, engage in spirited debates in classrooms, and apply their knowledge through hands-on activities. Whether through innovative teaching techniques, cultural and sporting endeavors, or leadership opportunities, Smita Patil Public School empowers students to think critically, adapt confidently, and thrive in an ever-changing world.
Following the CBSE curriculum, the school fosters a love for lifelong learning through innovative pedagogies such as peer learning, role-playing, flipped classrooms, and STEM-based education. Digital literacy is a priority, not just for students but also for the rural parent community, ensuring they remain tech-savvy in an increasingly digital world. The school maintains small class sizes to provide individual attention and adopts a multi-layered assessment system, evaluating students holistically on academic aptitude, emotional well being, subject proficiency, interests, and family background.
Infrastructure & Student Safety
As a fully residential school, Smita Patil Public School offers a safe, inclusive, and enriching learning environment. Spanning 25 acres, the campus is designed to blend classroom learning with open, outdoor experiences. Students benefit from well-ventilated buildings, digital classrooms, flexible furniture, and multiple activity zones that promote collaborative and project-based
learning. “Our school prioritizes security and well-being, with a high boundary wall, over 300 CCTV cameras, and a strict security pass system regulating entry and exit. Comprehensive fire safety and emergency protocols are also reinforced for campus security”, informs Manya Patil Seth, President SMC of Smita Patil Public School & President of the SP Charitable Trust. Separate, secure hostels for boys and girls, an independent water system, and outdoor learning spaces further enhance comfort and sustainability.
Sustainability Through Community Driven Campaigns
The school integrates environmental consciousness into its curriculum through long-term campaigns that encourage sustainable practices and community service. The ‘Go Green, Go Clean’ campaign, guided by the RRR policy(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repurpose), instills a deep commitment to environmental sustainability. Students actively participate in hands-on activities that reinforce their understanding of ecological responsibility.
A key initiative, the ‘Tree as a Mother’ concept, goes beyond tree plantation by teaching students how to nurture and study trees, recognizing their ecological, medicinal and environmental significance. The school also leads ‘Shramadhan’, where students clean their surroundings, including nearby ‘dhabas’ along the highway, while conducting street plays to educate communities on hygiene, waste management, and environmental conservation. Environmental and emotional well-being go hand in hand, with the practice of yoga, meditation, chanting & gratitude rituals to form an integral part of student life.
“For us, education goes beyond textbooks; it’s about shaping minds to integrate knowledge into real-life actions. Through hands-on activities and long-term campaigns, we instill a deep sense of environmental sustainability & community awareness, ensuring our students grow into responsible global citizens,” asserts Manya.
Nurturing Body & Mind
Physical fitness and cultural engagement are fundamental to the school’s philosophy. Every evening, students participate in a free sports hour, engaging in activities like basketball, football, throwball, badminton, table tennis, boxing, and traditional sports like Mallakhamb. These programs not only promote physical well-being but also provide students with opportunities to compete at district and state levels. Beyond sports, students benefit from a supportive, family-like atmosphere, where teachers and non-teaching staff live alongside students, fostering strong bonds and emotional well-being. Innovative assembly presentations and active clubs give students to explore many of their hidden talents.
Expanding Horizons Through Exposure
Smita Patil Public School is committed to broadening students’ perspectives beyond classroom learning. A key upcoming initiative, Bharat Darshan, will expose students to India’s rich cultural and geographical diversity through immersive educational trips and exchange programs with institutions across the country. To foster global awareness, the school has launched the Armchair Traveler Club, which introduces students to international cultures through documentaries, virtual interactions with global peers and lessons on world traditions, languages, and performing arts. Educators also integrate global art forms and cultural elements into daily learning, ensuring students develop a broader worldview.
“This multi-layered approach, blending both physical and virtual exploration, is our way of nurturing globally aware, culturally sensitive, and confident individuals. We truly believe that such exposure is essential to empower our rural students and help them thrive in an increasingly interconnected world,” concludes Manya.
