Tamil Nadu is home to some of the country’s top engineering colleges, both government and private, offering quality technical education and producing skilled professionals year after year. The state’s engineering colleges attract students not only from within Tamil Nadu but also from across India and abroad, thanks to their commitment to innovation, research, and holistic development.

Among these institutions stands Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT), a distinguished engineering college in Chennai. Established in 1998, AVIT initially operated as an affiliated institution under the University of Madras and later came under Anna University, Chennai.

A significant milestone in its journey came in 2004, when the institute was brought under the ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation – Deemed to be University (VMRF), Salem, as per Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. AVIT is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India.

Nestled in a tranquil environment at the end of Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the IT corridor of Chennai, AVIT offers an ideal setting for academic pursuits. The institution benefits from being a part of VMRF, which began its journey in 1981 under the visionary leadership of Dr A. Shanmugasundaram. Today, VMRF provides quality education across diverse streams including medicine, engineering, pharmacy, management, law, and more.

AVIT is guided by the mission of using education as a tool for social transformation. Under the leadership of Dr A.S. Ganesan, Honourable Chancellor of VMRFDU, and Vice President Dr Anuradha Ganesan, the institution continues to progress towards excellence. With a focus on innovation, inclusiveness, and academic rigor, the institute stands out as a beacon of technical education in Tamil Nadu.

Bridging Classrooms & Careers
Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology stands out for offering 100 percent industry-integrated programmes across all engineering and technology disciplines, an academic model that sets it apart not just in Tamil Nadu but across India. These programmes are developed in collaboration with leading industry partners to ensure students graduate with practical skills aligned to current market needs.

Prominent collaborations include Intel and NEC (AI, ML, IoT, Cybersecurity), HCLTech (Full Stack Java, Data Engineering, Business Analytics, Embedded Systems), XTIC–IIT Madras (AR/VR/XR), AMTZ and the Indian Biomedical Skill Consortium (Biomedical Engineering), Medini Technologies (BIM and Product Design), Bversity (Biotechnology), and AMTDC–IIT Madras (Advanced Manufacturing).

AVIT offers a range of UG and PG courses including B.Tech in Biotechnology, and B.E. programmes in AI & ML, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Biomedical, Civil, ECE, EEE, and Mechanical Engineering. PG courses span M.E., M.Tech, and MBA programmes.

Adding value to its academic strength is AVIT’s exceptional faculty team, including Professors of Practice from the industry. Faculty members are actively encouraged to pursue advanced training through AICTE QIP
and international fellowships, recently, four completed QIP training and two received fellowships at INTI University, Malaysia, ensuring a curriculum that evolves with industry trends.

Innovation with Future-Ready Infrastructure
Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) boasts world-class infrastructure that supports academic excellence, research, and innovation. The campus houses 12 advanced Research Centres and an AICTE-approved Idea Lab, providing students with hands-on experience in emerging technologies. Key facilities include the INTEL Unnati Lab, NEC Centre of Excellence, Apple Authorized Training Centre, Siemens and BOSCH Research Labs, and specialized centres for Renewable Energy, Nanotechnology, and Plant Tissue Culture. The e-Yantra Robotics Centre, supported by IIT Bombay, enhances practical learning in embedded systems.

Smart classrooms equipped with digital tools and a fully automated central library with RFID and remote access further enrich the academic environment. The digital library integrates seamlessly with the Learning Management System, ensuring flexible learning access.

Beyond academics, the campus offers holistic development with a FIFA-standard football ground, IPL-standard cricket pitch, modern hostels, gym, food courts, and air-conditioned auditoriums.

AVIT integrates technologies like AI, IoT, Data Science, and Robotics into its curriculum, revised for the 2025 batch. With certifications from platforms like HCL, Coursera, and Infosys Springboard, students engage in interdisciplinary projects and tech clubs. Competitions like Smart India Hackathon and IEEE events nurture real-world problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork.

Empowering Industry-Ready Engineers through Integrated Learning
AVIT stands at the forefront of modern engineering education by adopting the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) across all its programmes. AVIT has partnered with HCL Tech for 100 percent Digitalization of Outcome Based Education. With a student-centric approach, the institution has implemented innovative teaching and learning practices that focus on real-world relevance and industry integration.

AVIT offers 100 percent industry-integrated programmes in every discipline, with active collaborations involving renowned organizations such as Intel NEC, HCLTech, Medini Technologies, IIT Madras, AMTZ, and Bversity. These partnerships ensure that academic curricula are aligned with industry demands, and students gain practical exposure through internships, industry-led training modules, and hands-on projects.

Each department at AVIT has identified emerging areas to provide specialized training in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Electric Vehicles, Data Science, Sustainable Construction, Clinical Engineering, and more. Students receive focused training that leads to minor or sub-specialization degrees, equipping them with a competitive edge in the job market.
