Bloomingdales: Nurturing Children from the FoundationalStage for a Better Future
Set-up with the mission to instill an innate curiosity in young learners, inculcate amongst its students, a relevant value system, to continuously upgrade teaching skills through ongoing training programmes for teachers, Bloomingdales Pre-Primary was established in 1979. With their motto: `Knowledge is adorned by character', Bloomingdales believes in imparting education through blending concepts with investigation and practical learning.
The institute strives to provide every child with the opportunity to blossom from toddlers to responsible young adults. It follows the play way method of learning, exemplifying this philosophy, where its young learners are taught academic concepts through a practical and self-exploratory hands-on approach. "We provide indepth learning and a wealth of knowledge. Our school is fortunate to have excellent, skilled teachers and staff who serve as role models for the learners to emulate. Whatever values we instill in a child at a young age, we believe will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Therefore, we teach time management, responsibility towards society and the environment, respect for one another and elders, listening skills, attention, and a focused learning approach all through joyful lessons. Beyond academic success, we want our students to be responsible citizens", says Damayanti Bhattacharya, Principal, Bloomingdales Pre-Primary and JML School.
Bloomingdales incorporates unstructured activities like free play, creative play, role play, and sensory play to give the children a first hand experience of learning. Unstructured play also helps them develop qualities such as imagination, creativity and empathy. It has different programs from play school to senior KG. "Our approach to education is adaptable and age appropriate, allowing us to seize teachable moments and build lessons around them. Each initiative promotes a more unified and comprehensive approach to education by emphasizing different aspects of personal development, interpersonal interactions, knowledge and communication, and environmental stewardship. Our early years' education, which is multi sensorial, supports the spirit of investigation, exploration and experimentation together with a delightful blend of learning the 3Rs (Reading, WRiting and ARithmetic)", emphasizes Rashmi Kapadia, Head of Bloomingdales Pre-Primary.
The school offers children opportunities for hands-on learning of various subjects like music, dance, language, art and Self-Exploration and Experimentation. It focuses on the all-around development of children by including yoga and other mindfulness practices. Additionally, the school has teamed with MUSICANOPY, an internationally known early childhood music education programme, to provide students with award-winning music, engaging activities, and home access to their music via an app. Learning through dance is made possible by a partnership with Rhythmus Happy Feet, one of Mumbai's leading children's dance schools with globally educated teachers.
At Bloomingdales, a student's progress in school is tracked daily, ensuring development in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy as prescribed by the NEP 2020 along with Creative Arts like art & craft, dance and music. Not just that, emotional development and work habits like cooperation and active listening are also analyzed. In parallel, Bloomingdales believes in the learning triangle i.e., School Parents Student. All pieces of the learning triangle work closely for the growth and development of the students. Our Mascot AWE represents (Air, Water, and Earth) which constantly reminds all its stakeholders to 'make AWE happy'. The students are encouraged to participate in many competitive exams and other opportunities which provide scholarships to those special and gifted children who qualify.
