Anamika Sahu, Managing Editor‘India’ is a nation in making, still after 69 years of her independence. In the true sense, it is recently that India has reborn or rather born. In the recent times, the country has been under the spotlight for its incredible performance in space, defence, ease of doing business and several other spheres. But one area where India is far behind developed nations is the quality of education, as even today, most of the graduates are considered under-skilled by global employers. The increasing vast population, the falling ratio of faculties to students, the lowering standard

of education system, and many institutions repudiating modern way of teaching are some of the common reasons for this unpleasant situation; hence many still feel that India is a land of snake charmers and will take ages to grow above it.

Working hardly towards bringing a paradigm shift in this thinking process is over 677 universities, 37,204 colleges and 11443 stand-alone institutions in India (year 2014, as per India’s HRD ministry website). Many of these universities have broadened their spear of offerings to provide international courses relevant for today’s job market, and hire globally acclaimed faculty members to educate and train their students to be future/market ready. While sailing across the sea to reach the destination will take time, some of these universities have matched their education system with global standards and many are playing a considerable role in creating a new rural India (basically catering to tier II & III cities).

In this edition of siliconindia Education, we present to you ‘Top Universities in India – 2017’ featuring the country’s top government, private, and private deemed universities. These universities are further listed state wise. Taking into consideration some of the important traits of Universities, like streams, faculties, library, technology-savvy, curriculums, labs and others, the list has been shortlisted and later finalized. We hope that the issue will fulfill its purpose of creation and help students and their parents to gather better and clearer information about universities for pursuing higher education.
